Udzungwa Mountains National Park is one of Tanzania’s most spectacular and biodiverse parks, often called the “Galápagos of Africa” for its unique wildlife. Located in the Southern Highlands, it covers approximately 1,990 square kilometers of montane forests, waterfalls, and deep valleys, offering a cooler and greener alternative to the plains of the northern parks.
The park is home to several endemic species, including the Sanje mangabey and the Udzungwa red colobus monkey, as well as elephants, leopards, and a variety of birds. Its scenic trails and waterfalls, like the stunning Sanje Falls, make Udzungwa a paradise for hikers, nature lovers, and photographers seeking unspoiled landscapes.
With Travel with Shira, visitors can enjoy guided hiking tours, wildlife spotting, and immersive experiences in Tanzania’s lush mountain wilderness, making it an ideal destination for adventurous travelers and eco-tourists.
The best time to visit Udzungwa National Park is during the dry season from June to October, when hiking trails are accessible and wildlife spotting is easier. The wet season (November to May) brings lush greenery and waterfalls in full flow but can make trekking challenging.
