Semuliki National Park is one of Uganda’s most unique and biodiverse protected areas, located in the western part of the country along the Albertine Rift Valley. The park is famous for its rare lowland tropical rainforest, which is more closely related to the forests of Central Africa than East Africa. It is home to an impressive variety of wildlife, including forest elephants, buffaloes, pygmy antelopes, and over 400 bird species, making it a paradise for birdwatchers. Visitors can also explore the famous Sempaya Hot Springs, nature trails, and rich cultural experiences with the local communities surrounding the park.
Beyond its wildlife, Semuliki offers a truly immersive rainforest experience characterized by lush vegetation, towering trees, and a humid tropical climate. Guided forest walks allow visitors to discover primates such as chimpanzees, red-tailed monkeys, and grey-cheeked mangabeys, as well as a remarkable diversity of butterflies and insects found nowhere else in East Africa. The park’s remote and less-crowded nature makes it ideal for travelers seeking an off-the-beaten-path adventure.
